Spilt milk under a seat, a spaniel's favourite spot on the rear bench, a booster seat crusted with years of snacks: no vacuum shifts that. With steam, the nozzle releases dry vapour at around 100 to 120C, softening embedded dirt in fabric and plastic trim, and when held long enough it cuts bacteria and dust mite numbers sharply. We work on the car outside your Carlton home.
So little water goes in that upholstery is generally dry in a matter of hours. Our steamer draws power from the van, so you will not need to find a socket or a tap. Carlton sits within the NG4 district we cover with no call-out fee.
Why steam suits Carlton's family cars and damp air
Carlton's figures point to a lot of busy cabins. Look at the 3 Census 2021 neighbourhoods closest to the centre of Carlton: two cars or more for 32.8% of households, exactly one for another 44.4%. Second cars tend to be the ones carrying kids, kit bags and pets, and their fabric soaks up smells that air fresheners only cover. Steam reaches into seat seams, stitching and vents where that grime sits.
The air is the other factor. Humidity in Carlton averages 79%, then reaches 86% each January and 88% each December, and a winter clean using a wet extractor can leave cloth clammy for days afterwards. Steam with almost no water dodges that. Booking a steam clean before the damp months, rather than in the middle of them, gives seat fabric the best chance to dry right through.

Steam cleaning across Carlton Hill and nearby streets
We bring the steamer to Carlton Hill and nearby Netherfield, Colwick, Gedling, Bakersfield, Porchester, Thorneywood and Mapperley, all reached through the NG4 postcode district. Reaching you takes about 35 minutes. With 16.1% of homes in those Census neighbourhoods being flats, not every owner has a drive, and that is fine. A legal parking space where we can open the doors wide and leave them open while we work is enough. Since we run self-contained, you can leave us to it rather than hovering by the car. If parking is tight near Carlton Square, a quieter side street close by is often easier.

Preparing for steam and keeping the cabin fresh
Strip the car of belongings first, even the clutter beneath seats and in the spare wheel recess, giving the steam a clear run at everything. Tell us about leather, a fabric headliner or any screens, because these need lower heat and more care: headliner adhesive can let go if it gets too hot, and leather prefers moderate temperatures. Let us know about any pet that rides in the car, so we pay extra attention to the fabric it lies on.
Spring and summer bring the lowest humidity, at 72% to 75% from May to August, so drying is quickest then. Winter appointments are fine, though cracking a window open afterwards, where the car is secure, speeds things up. Once or twice a year for steam, topped up with ordinary valets in between, is a sensible rhythm for most cabins.
From Our Google Reviews
"Best mobile car valet you can get in Derby. Honestly did a smashing job, went through every nook and cranny you can imagine and made sure it was all very well done. Lovely bloke as well."
Steam Cleaning in Carlton: Questions
Rarely. Steam leaves far less moisture behind than a shampoo, and cloth usually feels dry within a few hours. On a damp Carlton day in December, when humidity reaches 88%, it can take longer, so we suggest booking when you do not need the car straight away and leaving a window cracked open if the car is somewhere secure.
We can steam the shell, straps and padding in place or out of the car, and that shifts most dried food and sticky marks. For full safety we never alter the harness or buckle mechanism, and if the seat maker says the cover should be removed for washing, follow that advice too. Taking the seat out before we arrive gives us better access to the car seat underneath.
It helps noticeably. Smoke leaves a tarry film on the roof lining, seat fabric, belts and plastics, and steam lifts much of that film from the surfaces it can safely reach. The headliner is the hard part, because its adhesive limits how much heat we can use there. A car smoked in for years may keep a faint trace, and we will tell you what to expect before starting.
