Valeting Services in Findern

A wheelwright's apprentice arrived in Findern in 1740. His name was Jedediah Strutt, and he went on to become the industrialist who partnered Richard Arkwright. The village he knew is still a small one, set around its green in South Derbyshire, south-west of Derby, and it is about 7 road miles, or roughly 13 minutes, from our van's starting point in Chilham. Seven services travel out with it, from hand valets and steam-cleaned interiors to mould treatment, roof reproofing, engine bays, windows and fleet work.

Nothing has to leave your drive. Our van arrives carrying its own water and power, so not a drop or a watt comes from your house, and the journey out is never added to the bill. Six days a week, from nine in the morning until five, are bookable, and on request an evening or Sunday slot is now and then possible. The business has traded for over six years, holds full insurance and has earned a 5.0 rating from Google reviewers.

What suits a Findern home, car or business

Houses with drives are the norm in the two small Census 2021 areas (LSOAs) that make up the centre of Findern: 41.8% of their 1,463 households live in detached homes and 30.4% in semis, with terraces at 13.2% and flats or similar at 14.6%. Car ownership is high, with 46.5% of households running two or more vehicles and 44.3% one, while 9.2% have none. For most people here, that means a valet or steam clean happens on their own drive, both cars can be booked together, and a water-fed pole will take care of upstairs glass and conservatories. The botanist Joseph Burtt Davy, later botanist to the Transvaal Department of Agriculture, was born here in 1870.

The weather points to the rest. Around 804mm of rain falls over 148 wet days, humidity averages 81% and reaches 89% in December, and frost arrives on about 32 nights a year. A car that stands through a damp winter is a candidate for a musty cabin or mould, salted A38 and A50 traffic leaves residue under the bonnet, and soft tops want reproofing between April and June. Local tradespeople running vans can set up a fleet rota with one invoice. Windows facing open ground benefit from a steady four to eight week rota.

Valeting in Findern: Questions

Tell us what you are seeing and smelling, and the choice usually becomes obvious. Everyday dirt inside and out is a valet, either mini or full. Pet hair, stains and grime trodden deep into fabric suit a steam clean. A damp, mouldy smell, soggy carpets or spots of growth call for mould removal. If something different turns up once we start, the plan can change there and then.

They can, and it is a sensible use of one slot. A full valet pairs well with an engine bay clean before a car goes up for sale, and house windows can be cleaned while the car is being worked on. List everything you want when arranging the visit, so the right amount of time is held in the diary for you.

Often not. Exterior windows only need access round the house, and a car can be valeted with the keys left in an agreed place. For mould treatment, or the first time we come, it is useful if someone is there at the beginning to explain the problem. Either way, there is no call on your water or electricity.
